FAO Xi'an

The Foreign Affairs Office of Xi’an Municipal People’s Government (also known as the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Xi’an Municipal Committee;FAO Xi’an) is a municipal-level government agency entrusted with the responsibility of coordinating Xi’an’s international exchanges and cooperation. Its mission is to serve as a gateway for Xi’an to engage with the world, fostering mutual trust, friendship, and collaboration with foreign governments, international organizations, and global sister cities. Guided by its vision of building Xi’an into an open, inclusive, and globally connected city, the office’s core areas of work include city diplomacy, sister-city partnerships, international conferences, and cultural-educational exchanges.

In addition, FAO Xi’an acts as a vital bridge for the implementation of China’s foreign policies at the local level, aligning national priorities with the city’s development strategies. By organizing high-profile events such as the Euro-Asia Economic Forum, the UCLG and the Roundtable Conference of Cities along the Silk Road Economic Belt, the office provides platforms for dialogue and cooperation while enhancing Xi’an’s global visibility. It also supports initiatives in trade, investment, tourism, and education that contribute to Xi’an’s positioning as an international hub.
